As instructed in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church,
Trinity UMC has an organized unit of United
Methodist Men (UMM), chartered and annually renewed through the General
Commission on United Methodist men. The UMM exists to declare the centrality of
Christ in every man's life.
Membership in the UMM is open to any man who indicates his desire to belong and
to participate in the ministry of the church through United Methodist Men. The
appointed clergy of Trinity UMC are automatically members of the UMM unit.
The foundation of United Methodist Men ministry includes enhancing Evangelism,
Mission, and Spiritual Life; and the advocacy of programs to train men within
our local church to promote specific ministries including prayer, missions,
stewardship, and civic/youth serving ministries.
To help accomplish this ministry, the Trinity UMM holds regular meetings on the
third Sunday of each month. These monthly meetings are held at 7:00 AM in the
Memorial Fellowship Hall (MFH) and include a buffet breakfast prepared and set
up by UMM volunteers. Wives and guests are welcome. These meetings also
include a short devotional and a guest speaker or speakers. In 2008 these
speakers have represented a wide range of church and community activities of
interest to the UMM and their guests.
Many of the UMM also participate in weekly Bible study and prayer sessions which
are held at 6:30 AM on Thursday of each week in the MFH. All men are welcome to
come and join in these meetings. Men of Trinity, of another Methodist church,
and of a church of a different denomination are currently enjoying these
sessions. These begin with an excellent light breakfast and include a study of
the Bible led by our senior pastor.
The UMM sponsors and conducts garage sales in the spring and in the fall to
sell items that have been donated by Trinity members. The sale is open to the
community and provides the major portion of the UMM income.
A church-wide Work Day was sponsored by the UMM in early July this year and we
expect to make this an annual, if not more often, happening. We also worked
with the United Methodist Women again this year on the Easter Cross project, and
were honored to cook and serve breakfast for the High School Recognition Sunday
breakfast.
UMM members also participate, in coordination with the Trinity Missions
Committee, in disaster relief and other hands-on mission trips.
The UMM yard sales and other income enable us to contribute to worthy causes.
This year the UMM has donated DVD and CD recorders to the church and contributed
half the cost of a new automated phone dialer. We contributed to the
Costa Rica wheelchair mission, the Salvation Army,
Salvation Ministries, Habitat for Humanity Apostle Build, the Good News Jail and
Prison Ministry, the Air Force Enlisted Village, Inc., the Upper Room Ministry,
Disabled American Veterans, Noah's Ark, UMCOR, and have helped with
the cost of food for some church activities.
All men of the church are welcome and are encouraged to join with us.
